Kalasara Setaysha
Chair
Kalasara has been a voice for the whales for many years through outreach and education. She has spent time with cetaceans in several countries, learning different Sanctuary styles of management protecting whales from human negligence and misunderstanding. Kalasara has been friends with the Ocean Mammal Institute for 17 years, and part of the Hawaii Ocean Noise Coalition, supporting an international ban of the use of harmful sonar. She is determined to help people understand and respect the intelligence, grace and true nature of these ‘gentle giants.’
Janette Shablow
Vice-Chair
Janette Shablow, (Hhp) is a world traveler since birth living & traveling internationally to explore what she calls, “raw natures calling to my soul.”. Her vocation as an intuitive in the healing arts has been her springboard to kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, body & boogie board surfing with sea creatures from whales to stingrays all over the planet. They are her family & she is devoted to their health & well being. Kauai’s whales, dolphins, sea birds & turtles called her to the island to help them.
Gordon LaBedz
Secretary
Gordon LaBedz, MD is a retired Family Physician who lives in West Kaua’i. He is a long time environmental activist who played a leading role in organizing the national coastal environmental group, the Surfrider Foundation. He was a local, state and national leader in the Sierra Club.
Marsha Green
Scientific Advisor
Dr. Marsha Green is a Professor at Albright College and is President and founder of the Ocean Mammal Institute, with focused studies on acoustic impacts on whales and dolphins. She also serves as a scientific advisor to the European Coalition for Silent Oceans (ECSO). Marsha worked with the European Parliament to adopt a moratorium on the use of low-frequency sonar and is working at the UN to develop international regulations on ocean noise. Dr. Green served as a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Acoustic Impacts on Marine Mammals reported to Congress on that issue.
