Net Entanglement

Number one cause of death for cetaceans.

Net entanglement is a huge threat to all marine mammals. 308,000 whales, dolphins, and porpoises die unintentionally each year as a result of becoming entangled in fishing nets and other fishing equipment. To the sanctuary’s credit, they have started a dis-entanglement program for whales. This is good, but not enough. There needs to be regulation and legal
consequences of discarded fishers’ nets. We need to stop supporting this by not eating seafood.
